About the Event
Humans have been gathering in circles drumming and singing since the very beginning; it's in our blood, it's in our bones, it's our human nature.
The sound of the drum has a profound impact on your nervous system grounding, centering and nourishing you also immediately, while the experience of singing together creates a strong sense of belonging and interconnectedness.
You're invited to join us as we unite our voices and open our hearts.
On this particular night I am joined by a special guest facilitator and incredibly talented musician, Blair Francis. He's a songwriter and recording artist who recently played at the world-renowned music festival Envision. Blaire also hosts regular Vocal Freedom Workshops on Salt Spring Island where he resides.
We're joining forces to hold a playful space for you to explore your voice. We start with fun vocal warm-ups, move into drumming, and then sing medicine songs. The songs vary each monthly circle coming from different traditions around the world: Amazonian icaros, Indian mantras, First Nations chants, songs from Rainbow gatherings, and some of our own original melodies.
I have many extra hoop drums and rattles so everyone gets a chance to play.
If you have your own drum, please bring it with you!
NOTE:
This is not a djembe drum circle, but a medicine/hoop/frame drum circle. (See example here)
That being said, all types of drums are welcome!
- No singing experience required.
- No one will be asked to sing alone. All skill (and non-skill!) levels are welcome.
